I was fortunate to be brought up in a home that was both supportive and musical. My parents ran a liberal house that was as focused on social and political awareness as it was the arts. My father had a vast and varied collection of vinyl, and I came to know and love music through the sounds of those recordings. As a child I was fascinated by album art, and my ears were shaped by the words, melodies, intelligence, and authenticity of artists like The Beatles, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, The Police, Joni Mitchell, Bill Withers, Van Halen, Bob Dylan, Ricki Lee Jones, Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, Roberta Flack, The Beach Boys, Ottis Redding, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Miles Davis, Pete Townshend, Whether Report, Marvin Gaye, and on and on... Later, as I became more serious about playing the drums, I gravitated to the journeymen/session elite who (more often than not) appeared in the credits of my favorite recordings; from them I continue learn that when it comes to making music, sound and feel trump all.
I began my career as a drummer in 1994, and have been a fortunate sideman based out of my hometown of Phoenix, AZ ever since. Music has taken me all over the country and abroad. I’m drawn to lyrics and melody, and I enjoy working behind great singers and songs. My drumming could best be described as supportive, song driven, and sound conscious. I am fortunate to enjoy many aspects of the music life: live playing, recording, and some teaching too.
